Diversity, Equity and Inclusion in Higher Education
Consultants from Renga Consulting lead diversity, equity and inclusion college campus assessments using the New England Resource Center for Higher Education (NERCHE) Self-Assessment Rubric for the Institutionalization of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion in Higher Education using a process we call “Project Inclusion.” Following the Project Inclusion stages, Renga consultants assess the readiness of the client institution for change, and serve as the backbone/support of the campus directed self-assessment effort. As a Visiting Scholar at NERCHE, Dr. Alane Shanks, Renga’s president and lead consultant, worked with NERCHE colleagues to write a successful grant and received funding from the Balfour Foundation to pilot Project Inclusion in four New Hampshire campuses. Dr. Shanks is now leading Project Inclusion efforts at several Massachusetts colleges. Dr. Shanks and her team help institutions through a tested set of steps that help first document the campus efforts, assess the assessment level in each of six dimensions, and then create a work plan to raise the level of engagement in each area. The graphic below shows the dimensions and the assessment stages. Project Inclusion provides training to sustain and, if appropriate, institutionalize a campus-wide change.
