Alane K. Shanks, Ed.D is the founder, president, and senior consultant for Renga Consulting providing expertise in Diversity, Equity and Inclusion, helping higher educational institutions, for-profits, and not-for-profits become effective and inclusive multicultural environments. Alane leads organization-wide strategic planning, facilitates the realignment of resources to strengthen institutions, builds strong and effective management and working teams, matching job duties to the overall mission of the organization, improving organizational climate, and leads organizations through significant cultural change.
Dr. Shanks also has a large executive career and life coaching practice specializing in faculty transitions from academic to administrative positions and mid-career job changes in any industry. Having held senior leadership positions in private and public institutions of higher education, serving as Associate Dean of Educational Administration and Finance at Harvard Medical School, Vice President/CFO at Roxbury Community College, and President of Pine Manor College, Dr. Shanks brings a wealth of experience to her clients. She has taught graduate-level courses in higher education administration and finance as well as strategies for systemic change.
Alane has a doctorate in Higher Education Administration from UMass Boston, a Masters in Management (MBA for Social Services) from the Heller School at Brandeis University, and a B.A. in English Literature from University of California Santa Barbara. Her dissertation and continuing research focuses on the impact of diversity, equity and inclusion on college or university climate and on the individual students, faculty and staff on those campuses.
